Abiu (botanical name Pouteria caimito) is an exotic fruit tree that grows in Hawaii. A native of the Amazon region of South America, abiu (pronounced Aa-be-you) belongs to the Sapotaceae family and is commonly found in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela. Abiu tree requires a moist and warm climate. Flowers are hermaphroditic which means both sexes are present.
