Even seedlings of this variety start bearing in the third year of planting, hence came the name ‘Moovandan’ meaning ‘third year’. It is generally a favourite in Kerala and each fruit weighs around 250 grams. Though the flesh is firm, fibrous and tangy it is liked by all.
Mangifera indica, commonly known as mango, is a species of flowering. It is a large fruit tree, capable of growing to a height of 30 metres (100 feet). There are two distinct genetic populations in modern mangoes – the “Indian type” and the “Southeast Asian type”.
